What is a salary hike calculator?
A salary hike calculator converts a percentage raise into actual rupee or dollar amounts — monthly and annually. When your employer says "15% hike," the calculator instantly tells you the new salary, the monthly increase, and how much more you'll take home. This helps you evaluate an offer, negotiate confidently, or plan how to allocate the extra income.
How to use this calculator
- Current salary — your existing gross annual salary (CTC or gross, before deductions).
- Hike percentage — the raise offered as a percentage. Enter 15 for a 15% hike.
The calculator shows your new annual salary, monthly salary, absolute increase in both annual and monthly terms.
The formula
New salary = Current salary × (1 + hike% ÷ 100)
Increase = New salary − Current salary
Monthly = Annual salary ÷ 12
Tips for negotiating your hike
- Know market rates. Research salary benchmarks for your role, experience, and location before the appraisal conversation.
- Account for inflation. A 6% hike when inflation is 6% means no real increase in purchasing power. Factor this into your negotiation.
- Consider the full package. Variable pay, bonuses, ESOP, and benefits form part of total compensation. Compare total CTC, not just base salary.
- Invest the increase. Directing even half your salary hike into a SIP can significantly accelerate wealth building over time.
Frequently asked questions
Is this calculator for gross or net salary?
For gross (pre-tax) salary by default. The hike percentage applies equally to both gross and net, so you can enter either — just be consistent. For in-hand take-home after deductions, use our In-Hand Salary Calculator.
What is a good salary hike percentage?
In India, average appraisal hikes run 8–12%. A hike above 15% is strong. If you're switching jobs, a 20–30% jump is common. Anything below inflation effectively means a real pay cut.
